An oblivious woman wore her engagement ring for more than a year, without realising.
Sweetly and secretly, Anna’s Aussie boyfriend Terry had crafted a beautiful wooden necklace for their one year anniversary, in 2015.
The pendant was made from Huon Pine, Tasmania’s native wood and it encapsulated the engagement ring, hanging around unsuspecting Anna’s neck for a year and a half.
In November 2016, Terry decided to finally pop the question during a trip to Smoo Cave, in Scotland.
“I picked Smoo Cave because it was a place we had talked about visiting since we first met, and ‘smoo’ comes from an old Norse word for ‘hiding place’, so I think I get extra points for that one,” Terry told HuffPost.
This guy clearly had it all planned out.
Before getting down on one knee, he asked Anna for the necklace so he could take an artistic photo of it against a rock.
Unsuspiciously, Anna handed it over.
Terry broke the secret seal he had created on the necklace to hold the ring inside with a knife.
He told Anna he forgot to give her her necklace back and spun around to reveal the glistening ring inside.
“She stood there with this completely confused and dumbfounded look on her face, and when she finally worked out what had just happened, she yelled, ‘Yes!’ and pounced on me,” he told HuffPost.
“It took her a couple of moments to understand that the ring had always been in the necklace,” he continued. “She flipped out ? ‘Wait, it’s been in there the entire time?! I could have lost it, you f**king idiot!’, which was a hilarious mix of happy and angry.”
The happy couple are saving to buy a house, which they hope will be the place to hold their wedding nuptials.
We wonder whether Terry has any more surprises in store…
