Let’s be honest, we’ve all had a fair few fashion failures we’d rather forget. There was a time when it was the height of millennial sophistication to don a florescent tutu on a night out – what ever were we thinking? But although our egos may be hurt looking back at our flip phone pics of us wearing such enviable get-ups, they never caused us to almost be ARRESTED.
That was the reality for American high-school student Summer, who was suspended and banned from graduation all because of a top she was wearing. So what was so horrific about this top I hear you cry – was it covered in swear words? Spikes? The location of the illuminati? No. It was in fact a simple green number that to be honest looked pretty damn cute.
Summer, who attends Hickory Ridge High School in Harrisburg, North Carolina was sitting in the cafeteria last week when her principal told her to cover up her top with a coat. Despite Summer doing this, the principal returned with the school’s security officer who sent her to go and change her outfit completely.
“The security guard was within five feet of me,” Summer, who has a 4.4 grade average and several scholarships told WCNC. “He had his hand on his gun. The principal said, ‘I’m gonna give you an ultimatum. We have tried to call your mother. You either come with me to the control room to change your shirt or we will arrest you.’”
This time Summer refused to comply and ended up being suspended for ‘insubordination’ which is a fancy way of saying ‘defying orders’. She’s also been banned from all end-of-year events which includes her own graduation – bit harsh don’t you think?
